Competition: Essex Junior Trophy (Third Round)

SSBFC (A) v Rainham Working Men’s Club (H)

After a loss in the previous league fixture, the team was determined to get back to winning ways.  SSB started off strong with Michael Adejumo opening the score line just moments after kick off. The team pressed Rainham high and moved the ball around well, unsettling the opposition with diagonal passes to the wings. Dylan Gordon added a second for SSB only a few minutes later and a comfortable 2 goal lead was established with Rainham creating very little goal scoring opportunities. Jordan Hamilton scored the third with an impressive headed effort from a cross that came in from the right wing. Barking remained focused, staying organised and keeping their defensive shape as Rainham continued to battle hard in an effort to stay in the competition. Dilan Thandi and Christian Baffour dealt with the long ball threats and goal keeper Vikram collected anything over the top. The score line could have been at least 6 before half time as SSB continued to make goal scoring opportunities, having a lot of success down the right wing.

SSB started the second half strong and were awarded a penalty when Christian Baffour’s headed effort was denied by a hand ball resulting in a sending off for the opposition player. Dylan stepped up to take it and continued his 100% conversion rate for Barking as they furthered their lead. With 10 men left and 4 goals down Rainham had a huge challenge ahead to turn the game around. SSB continued to attack, pushing further for more goals and won another penalty that again was put away with a composed finish from Dylan, who had secured another hat trick for the season. Unfortunately the boys couldn’t keep a clean sheet and conceded 2 poor goals with 15 minutes to go. The overall performance was good even though the concentration levels may gave dropped in the second half. There were many positive to take away as SSB march on to the fourth round of the tournament.
